The Call to Christian Stewardship

Your pledges and contributions, no matter how great or small, make a difference in our church, our community and the world.

We thank you for your generous acceptance of Christian stewardship and pray that you may find the level of giving that is right for you as you progress in your journey of faith and commitment. Stewardship is the recognition that everything we have comes from God, and that we are invited to share it joyfully for God's purposes.

Giving guide: weekly amounts by annual household income and giving percentage

Determining Your Tithe

Your tithe... Keep in mind that this refers to the amount you give to LUMC's "General Fund." This is the fund that covers all aspects of program ministry, including outreach, fellowship, worship, discovery and service. It is also responsible for ministry expenses such as staff salaries and benefits. All of these are important investments for intentional and fruitful ministry.

The "Step-Up" Approach

We invite everyone to prayerfully consider what is called a "step-up" in giving, which simply means committing to give one percent more than you currently do. For instance, if you're currently giving 4% of your income, you would consider increasing your pledge to 5%. Ultimately, our hope is that each of us will work our way toward the biblical tithe of 10%.

Using the Chart

Locate your approximate household income on the chart above. Then, using the amounts in the percentage columns, find your current giving level. Now consider increasing your giving by one percentage level. For example, if your annual household income is $45,000 and you currently give $35 per week, you are giving at about the 4% level. Stepping up to 5% would equal about $43 per week.

Stewardship Is More Than Money

Christian stewardship also includes the way we use our time, our talents and our care for creation. Serving at the Food Bank, singing in the choir or mentoring a student at Tuesday Tutoring are all acts of stewardship.

"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."1 Peter 4:10
