History of LUMC

Praise the Lord!  Our church has raised nearly $400,000 to date for our Building on Faith Campaign. What a wonderful way to show our faith in God as he leads us to a new chapter in our life together serving Him!

Groundbreaking took place December 4th with construction to last three to four months. We will still have services and functions in the fellowship hall of the church, so we are open during construction!

Many dedicated people from our church are spending countless hours making this all happen. They meet regularly, correspond with architects and financial institutions, conduct research, plan for alternative worship space and make arrangements to capture the history of this significant milestone in our church's growth. Please meet your building committee:

    * Don MacDonald, Co-chair
    * Clint Hawks, Co-chair
    * Phil Matthews
    * Sondra Bush
    * Ed Parker
    * Norma Parker
    * Pastor Elbert Dulworth
    * Nancy Baker
    * Ed Kemp
    * Emilee Hunt

Are you ready to build with us?

As we have grown throughout the years, so has the world around us. Ministry in the community of Laingsburg has continued to take on new forms. While we offer the same Gospel message, we are challenged with new ways to reach people in a changing culture where technology is used by a majority of people. As families live closer together, we seek to offer more opportunities to open our doors and our hearts to the people of Laingsburg, and to reach out to make disciples of Jesus Christ and transform the world around us.

Today, after several years of research, analysis, and evaluation of options, which included regular updates and discussions with the church members about their vision for the church and its ministry, we continue our tradition of building for the future by addressing the needs of our growing ministry and the traditions of our 140-year-old sanctuary. The building program will:

    * Replace and expand the sanctuary.
    * Nearly double seating to a little over 200.
    * Update sound and lighting systems.
    * Add new Christian education classrooms.
    * Expand the church library and church offices.

The main goal of the building program is to allow the church to grow and to expand its ministry with a renewed emphasis on serving the spiritual needs of children, youth, and young families. It also takes into account the condition and high cost of repairs of the existing sanctuary.

As you read through the pages of the brochure below, we pray that you too will become all the more excited about where God is leading us. We invite you to prayerfully consider how God is leading you to participate in Building on Faith at Laingsburg United Methodist Church. Together may we be blessed by the Spirit of God as we seek to respond faithfully to God’s call in our lives.
